Resume.io review: is it free, what it costs, and how to cancel
Resume.io is free to build in and free to download as plain text. It is not free to download the resume you designed: PDFs in its templates need a paid plan, which in many countries starts as a 7-day trial that turns into a monthly subscription unless you cancel. Is Resume.io free?
Partly. Resume.io's free plan lets you build one resume and one cover letter and download them as a TXT file. On its pricing page the free plan is described as TXT-only; its help centre says a PDF in the Vancouver template is also free. Every other template, unlimited PDF downloads and multiple resumes need a paid plan. In many countries that is a 7-day trial which, unless you cancel, becomes a monthly membership.

The practical reading: you can write the whole resume for nothing, and the words leave with you as a text file. The design you chose does not. If the design was the reason you came, the free plan is a preview.
How much does Resume.io cost?
Resume.io shows a different price list depending on the country you open it from, so this page does not quote a number. Two things are stable across regions and are stated on Resume.io's own pricing page: the paid route in many countries is a 7-day trial that, if you do not cancel, becomes a monthly membership; and every paid plan carries a 7-day money-back guarantee. In some regions the site instead lists plans sold by the week or the month as one-time purchases with nothing to cancel. The question to ask before paying is not the headline price but the end date. A trial that renews is a subscription; a one-week plan that does not renew is a purchase. Resume.io's FAQ describes both, and which one you are offered depends on where you are.
How to cancel a Resume.io subscription
Resume.io's help centre documents three routes. All three come from the same help article.
- Without logging in. Open Resume.io's contact page, choose the Cancel Subscription tab, enter the email address on the account, and click the cancel button. A confirmation email follows; the cancellation is not complete until you act on it. Check spam if it does not arrive.
- From the app. Log in, open the profile menu in the top-right corner, and cancel or downgrade from the account settings. Resume.io says this can be done at any time.
- By email. If the address is not found or no confirmation arrives, email support@resume.io.
Cancelling stops future renewals; it does not by itself refund the period already charged. Resume.io offers a 7-day money-back guarantee on paid plans, so if you are inside that window ask for the refund explicitly. Downgrading keeps your resume in the account; deleting the account removes it.
Is Resume.io worth it?
Worth it if you want a designed template quickly, will be sending the file to people rather than portals, and are comfortable managing a trial that converts to a subscription. Not worth it if you only need one clean, parser-safe resume: the free TXT export already has all the words, and a free ATS builder gives you a single-column PDF for a one-time fee with nothing to cancel.

Is Resume.io ATS-friendly?
Not tested here, and this page will not guess. Resume.io's templates cannot be exported as PDF without a paid plan, so ResumeAtlas has not run them through its parser the way it did for 28 Canva templates. What that test showed applies to every builder: single-column layouts with headings written as plain words parse; sidebars and letter-spaced headings are what lose sections. Resume.io's gallery contains both kinds.
If you already have a Resume.io PDF, do not rely on a label. Upload it to the free ResumeAtlas checker and read back which sections and contact fields a parser actually recovers. The free TXT export, for what it is worth, is the most parser-safe file Resume.io produces: it is only words.
