When you tailor, you're answering this question for the recruiter: "Where in YOUR background does the work this job requires show up?" Here's the hierarchy:

1. Keywords in the right places: Summary and recent role matter most. The recruiting system scans from top down—if your top keywords match the posting, you rank higher.
2. Job title alignment: If the posting says "Senior" and you're at that level, use the word. If they want "Product Manager" and you were a "Senior Product Manager," use their exact title for THIS job.
3. Industry language: Different industries use different words for the same work. "Budget management" in nonprofits is "P&L responsibility" in tech. Translate your background to their language.
4. Problem-solving proof: Your bullets should show you've solved problems like the ones in the posting. If they mention "cross-functional collaboration," find a bullet where you did that—and rewrite it to use those exact words.
